Privacy Policy — Test Prepper

Test Prepper ("the app") is a study app for Windows. It loads a unit of study material and lets you practise it in several formats, keeping track of which terms are sticking and which are not. It requires no account, and by default nothing it records leaves your computer.

What the app stores, on your device

The app keeps all of the following in its own folder on your computer (%APPDATA%\testprepper):

Uninstalling the app, or deleting that folder, removes all of it. No copy is held anywhere else unless you turned syncing on.

What leaves your device, and when

Three things, each one only because you asked for it.

1. Downloading the voice, once

Read-aloud runs entirely on your own computer. On first launch the app downloads the voice model from Hugging Face — an ordinary file download, carrying nothing about you beyond what any web request carries. After that, no text you study and no audio the app speaks is sent anywhere; the speech is generated locally. You can skip the download, and the app then runs without read-aloud.

2. Adding a unit from a photo

If you use Add a unit, the photographs you choose are straightened, evened out and resized on your computer, then sent to a service JBecSoft operates, which passes them to Microsoft Azure AI Foundry to be read and returns the resulting unit. The note you write about the page is sent with them.

JBecSoft keeps no copy of your photographs: they are passed through in a single request and are gone when it ends. Microsoft handles that request under the Azure terms for that service. Send only pages you are willing to have read by that service — worksheets and study guides, not anything you would not hand to a third party.

If you never use Add a unit, no photograph ever leaves your computer.

3. Syncing progress between computers

Syncing is off unless you turn it on. If you sign in to Google Drive or OneDrive from Reading & Voice, the app writes your progress into a private per-app folder in your own storage — Drive's appDataFolder, OneDrive's app folder. That folder does not appear among your own files, and the permission the app asks for cannot see anything else in your account.

What the app does NOT do

Children

The app is a study aid, and the people using it are usually students, including children. It is built to need nothing about them: no personal information is requested, no advertising is shown, and nothing is reported to the developer. A child's progress stays on the computer they study on unless an adult chooses to sign in to a Drive or OneDrive account and sync it. If you believe personal information has somehow reached us, write to the address below and it will be deleted.

Data retention and deletion

Everything on your device stays there until you remove it: delete %APPDATA%\testprepper, or uninstall the app. Anything synced stays in your own Drive or OneDrive app folder until you delete it there. JBecSoft holds nothing of yours to delete — no accounts, no server-side records, no copies of imported pages.

Changes to this policy

If what the app stores or sends changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated.
